Social Media Trends in November

November Trends

What are the social media trends in November 2022? As always, we will inform you here about the latest trends for the coming month and summarise the latest developments in social media for you in this article.

1. The new top app “Gas” overtakes TikTok in the USA

A new app is causing quite a stir among American high school students. After the French app BeReal successfully knocked TikTok off its download throne in recent months, a new app by a former Meta employee is now repeatedly topping the rankings of American app downloads on a daily basis. This app, called “Gas”, is all about positivity and boosting self-confidence.

“Gas” is currently available for iPhone users in a handful of American states, but is to be rolled out further. The next developments will show whether the app will ever make it to Europe or remain a short-lived hit. What exactly the app is about and what criticism has already been announced can be read in the linked Bloomberg article.

2. TikTok LIVE: New features

As TikTok reports in a media release in its newsroom, the app offers updates and new tips and tricks.

On the one hand, the multi-guest function was recently rolled out, where hosts can now go live with up to 5 guests. This feature can even involve the community. Secondly, TikTok continues to pay great attention to the security and well-being of the community, i.e. the users and creators. To further ensure this, the minimum age for TikTok LIVE will be raised from the end of November. An option is also planned where creators can choose whether they want to reach only adults with their content. This could make sense if the focus is on topics or products that are not suitable for younger users.

Last but not least, a new security setting deals with filtering inappropriate comments. For more information on TikTok and TikTok Live, visit the platform’s linked newsroom.

3. More security on Instagram

Instagram is also fine-tuning its security settings. Chief Adam Mosseri announced three new tricks to ensure the safety of users and creators on the platform.

So-called nudges are intended to remind users to maintain a positive and friendly atmosphere. This nudge function is to be triggered, for example, when potentially offensive comments or messages are posted. In addition, new user accounts of users who have already been blocked will also be blocked. In this way, Instagram will prevent blocked users from being contacted by new accounts. The third feature announced by Instagram is “Hidden Words”. With this function, creators can select words, phrases and emojis that they want to hide from their posts. If comments are pre-selected, they automatically end up in a filtered folder.

4. Strong advertising month of September

The current evaluation of the market and media researcher Media Focus has shown that the past September 2022 was as strong as usual. An increase of over 45% compared to the previous month was recorded. However, a slight increase in the advertising market is also visible compared to the previous year.

Although individual sectors have reduced their expenditure, they have still been able to occupy top positions among the advertising products and brands. In addition to Mc Donald’s, Coop and Migros are also among the top-placed companies. Detailed information can be found in the linked article from the Klein Report.

The importance of influencer marketing in the marketing mix

Influencer marketing is now an integral part of effective content strategies and has long since moved away from its initial niche positioning. According to the marketing trade journal Horizont, influencer marketing agencies are increasingly coming to the fore, especially with regard to long-term collaborations and holistic social media campaigns. Michael Murrins, Director Product International Media at market research firm Nielsen, tells Werben & Verkaufen magazine on this topic, “Influencer marketing has become an important building block within the marketing mix in recent years, and in many cases has become a measurable revenue catalyst.”

This was not always the case. Influencer marketing has seen massive professionalization and increasing popularization in recent years. The agencies in their executive position at the interface between creators and clients have evolved accordingly and have been commissioned with ever larger, higher budgeted and more complex campaigns. The increasing experience and the close connection to influencers allows service providers today to advise clients even more directly and strategically than was previously the case.

This industry development in recent years has been driven and facilitated, among other things, by the increasing use of smartphones and social media platforms such as Tiktok or Instagram, by the gradual disclosure of related key performance indicators and the application of related tools for harnessing marketing data, and by an increased awareness of the discipline of “influencer marketing. How effective influencer campaigns are can be measured and analyzed today.

Future potential for e-commerce

Working with influencers is lucrative. They are experts in their industry and create related content that is both professional and creative. They tell their stories in a goal-oriented way and in real time. At the same time, they always keep an eye on their target group.
